Homework Expectations

***During Hybrid Learning Homework is SUSPENDED

Homework will be sent home in your child's Homework Folder. It is to be returned the next day. Please make sure you check your child's folder every night for updates and important information. This is also a way for you to send notes or changes in daily procedure for your child. Please feel free to send any questions on a note in your child's folder as well. The Homework Folder is a great way for school and home to be connected and working together.

Please sit with your child while he/she does her homework. Students have been taught the skills they need to be successful on daily homework, however sometimes, they may need a little refocusing.

Reading Homework

Reading Logs: Each week, a reading log will be sent home in the Homework Folder.  Books are to be logged daily. At the beginning of the year, both the kindergartners and the parents can log books You can read to the kindergartners, read together with your child, or have your child sit independently and spend time in a book. Please keep the Reading Log in the Homework Folder.
Once the Reading Bags, with the "just right" books start going home, First Gradres will be reading those books daily and logging them onto the Reading Log.  It is fine to repeat a title of a favorite book read as repetition helps build fluency.   All books in the Reading Bags are to be read daily by the First Gradres.  Please continue to keep the Reading Log in the Homework Folders.

Fundations Homework

Fundations homework will be sent daily. Please work with your child on the skills included on this worksheet. This will strengthen your child's Literacy Skills and help them in both Reading and Writing. Mastery of these skills will arm your child with all they need to be successful in Reading and Writing this year! Fundations Tests sight word tests will be given weekly. There will also be a cumulative test given at the end of each Unit.

Trick Words (Sight Words):

A baggie with the sight words will be sent home at the beginning of the year.  The words need to be cut apart, kept at home, and practiced daily.  Check the newsletter for the words highlighted weekly.  First Graders are responsible for practicing all sight words daily, until they can be read and spelled automatically.

Math Homework

Math Worksheets will be sent home. These Math sheets are in line with the GO MATH curriculum that we use in Springs School. The methods are in accordance with the Common Core State Standards.
